Mother’s Day is a big deal. While there are many beautiful ways to honor your mom, what she would really want is probably wine. Celebrate the woman who made you possible.

This is also an opportunity to up the ante on the sibling rivalry.

A bottle of Masrinell Cava with two wine glasses

2015 Mastinell Brut Rosé Cava.

Trepat is a red Spanish wine grape variety that is found in the appellations of  Conca de Barberà and Costers del Segre. Many have compared it to and called it the Pinot Noir of Catalonia. Traditionally it has been used to make rose as well as some serious red wines. This is a Cava from Trepat.

When we heard that Mastinell is making a sparkling rosé from Trepat, we had to try it. It was amazing. Bright pink with a dose of saffron color, it shows fine bubbles and a strawberry nose. More strawberries follow on the palate with cherries, hint of cinnamon spice and slight pepperiness.

We can imagine this with salmon, fois gras, even as a light dessert in itself. Mouth wateringly tasty!

It just seems perfect for Mother’s Day.

We recommend the following plan of action to usurp the title of favorite child:

Take her out to brunch.
Take this bottle with you.
Pay the corkage (’cause the restaurant will have nothing like this).
Have it with brunch.
You will knock her socks off!

Who is the favorite child now?!
